The Cult - "Choice of Weapon"

By Thomas S. Orwat, Jr.

One of the most respected bands in rock, The Cult, return with their 9th studio release, which is their first in five years.  This guitar heavy, lyrically profound and diverse, ten track release, produced by legendary producers Bob Rock and Chris Goss, prove the Cult are still a mighty rock n' roll force to be reckoned with.  From the first track, "Honey From a Knife" to the last track, "This Night in the City," the Cult, led by vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, kick in and never let up.  This is truly the band's most well crafted and cohesive release to date.  Astbury's astute and reflective lyrics (dealing with his disillusion of society's "material" obssessiveness and "disconnectiveness"), coupled with Duffy's six string sonic assault, propel the Cult to a higher level of creative excellence.  Stand out tracks include the ultra catchy "For the Animals," and the impressive, soon to be fan favorite, "The Wolf."
